"Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath

The song I chose for this week is "Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath. Brandon Heath is a Christian music artist. He has two albums out, which are Don't Get Comfortable, released in 2006 and What If We, which was released in 2008. I like this song because when I think about the meaning, it makes me realize that even though life can be hard at times I have such an awesome life and that I'm extremely lucky. To me, the song means that the guy is going through life just like all of us but he doesn't see the people he walks past that have it bad in life. When he sees these people that are unfortunate, he doesn't actually see who they really are. So he asks God to help him see what's going on in the world. It also seems that maybe he experienced something bad and that it was an eye opener so he wants to see the other people that have it bad in life. And I think he's also asking God for faith and for help so he can help these people and help change these people's lifes.

Looked down from a broken sky, traced out by the city of lights
My world from a mile high, best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere, why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted, ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet, does her best to smile at me. To hide what’s underneath
There’s a man just to her right, black suit and a bright red tie
To ashamed to tell his wife, he’s out of work, he’s buying time
All those people going somewhere, why have I never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted, the ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

I’ve been there a million times, a couple of million eyes
Just moving, past me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong.
I want a second glance so give me a second chance to see the way you’ve seen the people all along.

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted, the ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

  1. Brandon Heath...is he pretty popular? I have never once heard his name. I read through these lyrics and they sound very "deep".

  3. I like how the song is very lyrical - even without the music, you can hear how it's supposed to flow. I would have like a third instance of "seeing", though.
